about

Kvindelig are immensely proud to present our first foreign artist:
Ia-HA-Crax from Romania!
We instantly fell in love with his dark churning modular synth machine poetry, which defiantly projects a raw early 1980s vibe. Ia-HA-Crax is joined by Bureaucratic Bondage on this split release, topped off with a collaboration track.

The main inspiration for the collection of tracks from both, stem from a discarded 1944 book ("Danmark" bind II by Sigvart Werner) found in a dumpster by Bureaucratic Bondage. The book is brimming with rosy artistic photography of nature and historical sites from different regions of Denmark in their absolute best light. But rather than tapping directly into the intense national romantic stance of the book, each give their own thematical spin.

Ia-HA-Crax dives into the fantastical lore of mythical creatures and ill-disposed entities lurking in the darkness of a forest or at the depths of a human psyche.

Bureaucratic Bondage explores the largely detached indifference to the life and death of their subjects, displayed during the 1660-1849 absolute monarchy of Denmark represented by the remaining monolithic dwellings of the then elite.

The watershed year for romantic nationalism was 1848, when a revolutionary wave spread across the European continent. The wave also hit Denmark, albeit no public beheadings. The monarchy was politically outflanked by the bourgeoisie.
Danish national romanticism saw a resurge in the 1940s with Sigvart Werners series of photo books as an instrumental means to both heighten photography to an artform, as well as spark a national interest for the conservation of nature.

In their own words:

Ia-HA-Crax was born years ago as a natural inclination for uncommon musical speech. It conveys personal mindsets through analogue gear, spontaneous sound sources and unpleasant rhythmic structures. Ia-HA-Crax deliberately approaches peculiar subjects that (un)fortunately remain incomprehensible under the harsh spectrum of extreme-electronics sound. More articulated literature, meaningful stoics and early mystics read when garden-work finishes, distilled through unpretentious alcohol, nurture the project’s appetite for cultural insight. The project has recorded in Romania (Baikoireshti) and published albums like Macronympha split Ia-HA-Crax (Mask of the Slave records, Romania, tape-2017), Exprektor (Non-waste Production, Russia, tape-2018), Ia-HA-Crax split NAVA SPATIALA Mask of the Slave records, Romania, tape-2018), SciVias Homini (Le Tombeau des Muses, France, tape-2018), Vaga-Bondage (Void singularity, England, cd-2018), Gruesome Death-split Cannibal Ritual, Germany, cd-2020) and other digital albums.

---------------------------------

Bureaucratic Bondage admits to a fascination of the mindbending hellscapes conjured by Franz Kafka. Taking form as a shapeless bureaucratic ascendancy exercising labyrinthine regulatory sadism translated into a delicately apportioned mixture of noise ambient and harsh noise. Conceptually restricted to a no input set up of a small cheap mixer and 3 stomp boxes only. M. Jensen who is behind Bureaucratic Bondage, has been more or less active in the harsh noise scene since the late 1990s, under various names. This is the latest incarnation.
